This piece illuminates the hidden voices in the backlash against Jason Aldean’s, “Try That in a Small Town”. I bring to bear my and others’ findings on rural Black Americans and their modern political experience. My article centers on rural Black Americans, a population that is often considered a relic of the Jim Crow era, and presents considerations for scholars and activists looking to expand and understand the electorate in 2024.
What It Is and What It Can Be.

A throughline in each of those service categories is that I synthesize information prior to crafting responses or products. I deconstruct problems and answers into their constituent parts then identify the methods, tools, and information that explain and answer them. My personal and professional backgrounds have prepared me to excel at this work.
